What hardware do you use?

RelicHost uses high specification Dell and Supermicro servers together with our own network run on Cisco and Juniper equipment. All our servers are high quality, using the latest Intel CPU's and plenty of RAM. We couple this all together with lots of hard disks (RAID-10) to make sure your VPS performs well whilst keeping your data as safe and secure as possible.

All our hardware is located in top of the range UK and US datacentres, which have multiple fast pipes to the internet to make sure your website browsing experience for everyone is as efficient as possible.

Hardware Details : For those who want to know the actual hardware specifications, our VPS nodes are guaranteed to have the following minimum specification.

  • Dual 4 Core Xeon (8-16 cores in total)
  • 32Gb RAM minimum
  • RAID-10 Hardware RAID with Hot Swap Drive Bays
  • Supermicro or Dell server quality hardware
  • 100Mbit or 1Gbit public ports
  • 100Mbit or 1Gbit private ports
  • 1/2U rack mounted form factor
  • What software do you use?

We use Linux operating systems on our servers - this allows customers more control. We provide (and use) a wide variety of software to help control your VPS as well as making it easier to manage. Options ready for use within your control panel can be used to develop scripts for your websites (for example PHP, PERL, MySQL and CGI).

SolusVM is the VPS control panel we provide as standard, which allows you to control all aspects of your VPS including reloading and rebooting it, and monitoring resources and availability.

DirectAdmin is available as an add-on to your VPS - this is our cheapest commercially supported control panel package that provides all the functionality that you need to run your website - giving you the ability to handle email, databases and website details from a single login.

cPanel is also available as an add-on to your VPS - this is our most popular control panel for your websites, and is also the leading commercial Linux based control panel. It offers a huge amount of features but is also easy enough to use so that the beginner doesn't feel overwhelmed.

For billing and support, we use the industry leading combined Web Host Management Control System (WHMCS) to provide you with access to your billing and support from a single log-in portal. This gives you online access to our sales, billing and support teams as well as providing an easy way to check invoices, make payments, and all the other things needed to ensure your VPS is running smoothly.

What do you use for your VPS Platforms?

We offer Xen PV. Xen PV is set up to give you 100% assurance that the resources you have paid for are all yours. With the advantages that it is unable to be oversold, Xen PV offers a full Linux-based environment where you can load your own kernel modules and set up VPNs, loop back filesystem and other 3rd party software whilst running at optimum speed and flexibility. We also support PyGrub (enabled by request) allowing you to run your own kernel within the VPS.

What Add-ons can I choose from?

Add-ons are the extras that we can provide if required. They do incur an additional charge as they are not part of the standard hosting package. The add-ons can be ordered at any point, and are:

cPanel - this is our most popular control panel for your websites, and is also the leading commercial Linux based control panel. It offers a huge amount of features but is also easy enough to use so that the beginner doesn't feel overwhelmed.

DirectAdmin - this is our cheapest commercially supported control panel package that provides all the functionality that you need to run your website - giving you the ability to handle email, databases and website details from a single login.

Additional IP Addresses - 1 IP address is provided as standard with each VPS account, however additional IP addresses are available for purchase as add-ons.

What Operating Systems do you support?

Cuurently, we supply and support Centos 5.x

    Where are the VPS located?

We offer you a choice of either a UK or US location when you purchase a VPS from RelicHost. The VPS solution located in the US is ideal if your customers are based within the US or the Asia-Pacific region, as it provides low latency connections to the AsiaPac region. For UK or Europe based customers, our VPS located in the UK is a great option. We ensure that all of the locations we use have excellent physical security, fire suppression, redundant network and staff who provide assistance in the event of physical hardware issues 24 hours a day, together with a 99.9% SLA on power and network.

Will I be given Full Root Access to my VPS?

This depends on whether or not you choose to have cPanel. You get full root access to your server as standard, however if you choose to take cPanel as an addon, the default is that we will manage the VPS for you at no extra cost (this means you wouldn't have root access in this instance). It is possible to have cPanel and opt for a non-managed solution, which gives you the root access - just let us know when ordering if you would prefer to do this.

Do you offer a money back guarantee?

Yes, we offer a 14-day money back guarantee (for the VPS only - any software and addons you purchase for the VPS are excluded from this money-back guarantee). If you aren't happy with your service, please contact us and we will help to resolve any issues. We suggest that if you are new to VPS that you sign up on a month to month basis to start with, and then upgrade to a yearly account once you are settled in.

What can I do on my VPS?

You can do almost anything you want on your VPS as long as it's legal. Specific exclusions are IRC and P2P.

How long will it take from order to setup?

All orders are subject to fraud checks, and following the successful completion of this, your standard VPS account will be set up within an hour. Accounts which require installation of the VPS with cPanel (but are unmanaged) may take a little longer. A managed VPS account with cPanel can take around 24 hours for complete setup.

Getting Started - Connecting to your VPS

For a Linux based VPS you can access via an SSH client. From a Windows desktop we suggest using a PuTTy client. To connect using PuTTy, start up the PuTTy Client, enter your IP and click Open. Your VPS will then ask you to enter your username and password, both of which will be provided in your welcome email.

    Reinstalling your VPS

For a XenPV re-install, you can just click the re-install button in your SolusVM control panel. Details of your SolusVM control panel are provided in your welcome email.

    Do you offer discounts?

Discounts are available for purchases of an annual package - get 12 months for the price of 10! Select 'Annually' when ordering and the discount will be automatically applied.
